CHRONICLE OF INTERNATIONAL EVENTS (September 2009)
· From August 30 to September 3 a delegation from Passau University paid Ivanovo State University an official visit. The delegation included President Prof. Walter Schweitzer, Professor of Economics K.D. Haase and Professor of Slavonic Philology D. Uffelmann. During the reception given by Rector Prof. V. Egorov President Walter Schweitzer was solemnly awarded with the title of the Honorable Professor of IvSU. Deans of Faculties of Economics, Law, History, Philology and Foreign Specialists’ Training participated in this meeting. Prof. Schweitzer noted intense activity and successful implementation of the work plans adopted for the year 2009. As a result, the work program for the year 2010 was discussed. The delegation of Passau University participated in the opening ceremony of the Literary Museum and M. Dudin’s memorial study. German guests also visited Svyato-Nikolo-Shartomsky monastery and the city of Yaroslavl. · From August 31 to October 1 M. Gorbunov, Leading Programmer of the University Administration, was in Florence on the invitation of Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation. The visit was aimed at collecting practical material on the topic of the scientific research. · From August 31 to October 1 Honorary Lecturer of ISU Dr. Heide (Denmark) stayed at our university. During his visit Asbjorn Heide gave lectures at the Faculty of Economics, learned the Russian language and discussed the prospects of further cooperation with Denmark in the field of complementary vocational training at the meeting with the ISU leadership. · From September 1 to August 31 2010 I. Kazakova, Assistant Professor of the Sub-Faculty of Romance Philology and Latin Language, will continue her work as a teacher of the Russian language at the University of Clermont-Ferrand (France) on the assignment of the Federal Education Agency. · September 1-30 within the cooperation agreements two groups of students attended courses of the Russian language: one group came from Passau University, the other – from Czeske Budejovice. German and Czech students improved their knowledge of Russian and acquainted with the historic monuments of our city. Excursions to Suzdal and Yaroslavl were organized. The group of students from Germany took part in the meeting in celebration of the anniversary of the Ivanovo House of Nationalities’ foundation. They also met students of the Faculties of History and of Romance and Germanic Philology as well as pupils of School No. 58. · From September 1 Kristina Rudenko, a 5-year student of the Faculty of Philology, Department of Journalism, will take a one-year linguistic course at the Teachers’ Training University of Beijing on the assignment of the Federal Education Agency. · September 6-8 the University of Lodz hosted the international scientific conference “Should we be afraid of Russia? Should Russia be afraid of Europe? Russia in the integrating Europe: the image of the Russia bear in European cultures”. Papers were read by Professors M. Timofeev and O. Riabov, Assistant Professors T. Riabova and U. Mutaev as well as by our students and post-graduates. The trip to Poland was partially financed by the Spefan Batory Foundation. · From September 7 to October 2 Ye. Shubina, a 4-year student of the Faculty of History, International Relations Department, took a course of the French language in Montpelier. · From September 15 to December 15 D. Smirnov, Assistant Professor of the Sub-Faculty of Modern and Contemporary History and International Relations, and M. Opolovnikova, Assistant Professor of the Sub-Faculty of German Philology, will be on a scientific assignment in Germany (Free University of Berlin and Passau University) as finalists of the joint Immanuil Kant program of the RF Ministry of Education and Science and DAAD. · September 18-26 A. Malyguin, Director of Inter-Academy Centre of International Cooperation and Academic Mobility, was in Novorossiysk on the VII conference and XVII training seminar “International Cooperation and Strategic Partnerships of Universities in the Formation of Innovation Education in Russia”. The discussions concerned the export of Russian educational services, the legal aspects of academic mobility, recognition of periods of studying in the projection and fulfillment of joint educational programs and other topical issues of the integration of Russian academies into the world educational and scientific space. · September 17-27 within the cooperation agreement with the University of Tampere Ye. Filatova, Senior Lecturer of the Sub-Faculty of English Philology, gave a series of lectures on English Political Discourse to Finnish students. · The first month of the new academic year was rich with international scientific fora that took place at ISU: - September 10-12 – the 8th International Training School “The New in the Theory and Practice of Lexicography: the Synchronous and Diachronous Approaches”. It involved more than 150 linguists and philologists from academies of Russia, France, Denmark, Great Britain and Canada who exchanged their experience, discussed urgent problems and issues of modern lexicography. The framework of the training school also included the master class given by Mr. David Fay, the English Language Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, for school teachers of Ivanovo and Ivanovo region as well as the international seminar “Florence in the Works of European Writers and Artists: a Project of an Encyclopaedia for Guides and Tourists” held under the patronage of Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation (Italy). - September 22-25 – the VII International Conference “Lyotropic Liquid Crystals and Nanomaterials” and the 5th Chistyakov’s Readings “Achievements in Thermotropic Liquid Crystals Research”. During plenary and sectional sessions 67 speeches were heard and 75 bench-top reports were discussed. They were prepared by scientists from the leading research centers of Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Samara, Ufa, Perm, Nizhniy Novgorod, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Ivanovo and others cities as well as by the guests from Germany, Italy, Japan and Israel. The conference became a school for young scientists. Eight of their reports were awarded with diplomas. The participant of the scientific forum determined the key lines of investigation in the sphere of liquid crystals and nanomaterials and strengthened the links among representatives of different schools of thought. - September 24-26 – the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Seminar “Protection of Material and Non-Material Benefits: the Public and Private Aspects” held at the Faculty of Law. It united scholars from Moscow, Vladimir, Kostroma, Nizhniy Novgorod and Ivanovo academies, practicians and representatives of different branches of power in Ivanovo region. The speech on criminal law pronounced by Dr. Beulke (Passau University) was heard with a great interest. The seminar took place within the cooperation agreement between ISU and the University of Passau. It was also supported by the German Law Center attached to the faculty. As a result, a decision was made to hold the 4th International Scientific Training School from September 30 to October 2 2010. - September 24-27 – the international conference “A. Chekhov and the Characters of His Works in the Space of the Provinces and the Capital” held in Plyos. The conference engaged member of the Chekhov Commission of Russian Academy of Sciences. Russian and international scholars studying Chekhov’s work discussed the socio-cultural and artistic aspects of the interaction between the provinces and the capital in A. Chekhov’s works. In addition to sectional reports, guests and participants enjoyed a rich cultural program including a sightseeing tour over Plyos and visiting Levitan’s house and the Museum of Russian Landscape; Aleksandr Sibiryov performed romances on the lyrics by Russian poets of the 19th and 20th centuries.

March 17 – 27 Within the framework of cooperation agreement between IvSU and Tampere University, Finland the associate professor of the Pre-Revolutionary Russian History Department A.V. Stepansov delivered a course of lectures “Consumerism in Russia of XX century” to Finnish students.
FEBRUARY 2009 February 20 Head of International Relations Office A.V. Belonogova took part in the Tempus IV information session that took place in the EU Delegation Office inMoscow. February 12 – 17 The first-year students of the Faculty of History (specialty “International Relations”) Anna Kruglova, Alyona Tikhonova and Ulyana Timofeyeva took part in the international conference “United Nations Organization Model” in Great Britain on the basis of King’s College London, that helped them to use and improve their knowledge and skills obtained during the academic year. The working language of the conference was English. Annual international conferences are the logic conclusion to the program where students and pupils elaborate and defend the optimal solutions, prepare documents in English, study to make up a constructive dialogue and tolerance. February 10 – June 30 The associate professor of the Practical Russian Language Department I.A. Ermolayeva will work as a Russian language teacher inPreshov University (Slovakia). February 1 – 10 The student of the Faculty of history (specialty “International Relations”) Oksana Kudryavtseva had practice inLodz University (Poland).
January 29 – 31 Vice Rector for Public Relations Prof. O.M. Karpova took part in the work of the international conference “Life Long Education in Europe”,Helsinki (Finland). It was organized with the financial support of the Conference Organizingl Committee Grant.
January 26 – February 6 Head of International Relations Office A.V. Belonogova took part with the report “International, intercultural and interreligious tolerance as one of the main elements of civil society” in the seminar “Civil Society in Eastern Europe: history and present” that took place inPassau University (Germany) with the financial support of DAAD.
January 25 Chinese, Mongolian and Vietnamese students celebrated New Year according to the oriental calendar. Vietnamese students prepared a big celebration where they read poems, sang national songs and performed folk dances. Vice Rector for International Relations Prof. N.V. Usoltseva and Deputy Dean of the International Students’ Training Faculty PhD. D.I. Ivanov took part in it.
January 23 The annual conference of Association of English Language Teachers of Ivanovo and Ivanovo Region (head –Prof. Dr. O.M. Karpova, Vice Rector for Public Relations) took place on the basis ofIvanovo State University. The representative of the US Embassy Office of the English Language participated in it.
