Jutta Rheim read a course of lectures on country studies in Ivanovo State University. Thanks to her efforts the students could have first-hand information about culture, traditions and daily life in Germany

Dipl.-lng. Dr.-lng. Klaus Praefcke, Professor at the Berlin Technical University, Germany
Twelve years ago, the collaboration between scientists of the ISU and the Technical University Berlin began in the area of liquid crystal research. The mutual work of Professor N.V. Usol'tseva, head of the Liquid Crystal Laboratory of the ISU, with Professor K. Praefcke, Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Technical University Berlin, was the start of a fruitful scientific collaboration between both universities in Russia and Germany, respectively.
The results of this research work were presented at national and / or international conferences as well as published in more than 30 papers in reviewed international journals.
With a grant of the RF Presidents scholarship, the ISU student A.I. Smirnova could be sent to Professor Praefcke's research group in Berlin for six months in 1998. There she partly carried out research work for her Ph.D. thesis. Other co-workers of Professor Usol'tseva have also been sent to him in order to execute and to complete special studies on liquid crystals, mainly on discotic ones.
The international collaboration was not restricted to contacts in only one professional field. Every visit of Professor Praefcke to the ISU was accompanied by various lectures he presented on topics of chemistry and physics of liquid crystals and by seminars on the German language, the latter ones for students of the Faculty of Romance and German Philology. Furthermore, Professor Praefcke has supported our teaching work by sending over several years and in a great number and amount valuable modern literature in German, English, French - and sometimes even - in Russian: about 100 parcels of five kilograms each, total weight 500 kg! The literature he judiciously selected was and still is of great relevance and interest for professors and students in various fields, social affairs, languages, economy, biology, ecology, medicine in the reunited Germany and its federal political system etc. Professor Praefcke is a member of the Editorial Board of the ISU periodicals "Liquid Crystals and their Applications" and Ivanovo State University Bulletin." He is also a permanent member of organizing committees for International Conferences on Lyotropic Liquid Crystals held at the Ivanovo State University every third year. For his generous, outstanding, and varied support of the ISU and its members as well as for his great contributions into strengthening our international co-operation in educational and scientific areas, Professor Praefcke was awarded the title "Professor Honoris Causa" of Ivanovo State University, Russia, in 1993.

Professor Dieter Stork, chairman of "Friends of Ivanovo" Society of Muensterland, Germany takes an active part in development of partnership between Ivanovo and Muensterland.
As a part of co-operation programme he read a course of lectures on culture studies for Romance Germanic Department students.
He regularly organises visits of delegations from Muensterland to Ivanovo, including Ivanovo State University. "Friends of Ivanovo" Society, of which he is Chairman, supported a trip of German Philology Department lecturers to Germany.
For his considerable efforts in development of educational programmes in German philology Mr Stork was awarded the title of Honorary Lecturer of Ivanovo State University.
Professor Gustav Echelmeyer is an acive supporter of partnership development between Ivanovo and Hannover, Germany.
On 24-25 September of 2006 the President of Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation (Florence, Italy) Mr. Paolo Del Bianco and his spouse visited Ivanovo region on the invitation of Ivanovo State University.
Paolo Del Bianco Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation was established in 1998 by a Florentine architect, businessman and public figure Mr. Paolo Del Bianco in commemoration of his father, who was a prominent businessman, public figure, awarded with the Italian Republic Labour Order. In 1975 the Bianco family founded "Vivahotels" corporation in Florence which was to introduce new meaning to the hotel enterprise in one of the most visited cities in the world. Its goal was to ensure the visitors' participation in the cultural life of Florence, to restore and to support its innumerable cultural treasures. The accommodation fee in Vivahotels (now they are 5 modern three and four stars hotels both in the new areas and in the historical center) is spent on restoration of treasures of Art and Architecture, organizing cultural and scientific events, educating and nurturing of young people. The corporation's motto is "Art in Our Hearts". It is embodied in dozens of restored reproductions of paintings on the walls of the hotels, in picturesque scenes of ever-blooming city which can be seen from the two terraces of the central hotels in Florence (the buildings were also restored with the help of Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation).
In the beginning of 1990-s the first new cultural programmes appeared. Together with the basic programme "Viva Florence!" started a youth programme "Fleming", named after the first Vivahotel, which was turned into a popular European youth center. All these activities resulted in establishing the Romualdo Del Bianco foundation. Its primary aim is the international cultural integration of young people mainly from Eastern Europe, where totalitarian regimes dominated until recently. Also the principles of organizing the weeks of cultural integration and international socialization of young people were elaborated. During these weeks the Foundation gives the students from different countries the opportunity to live free of charge in Florence for 7 days. The participants are united by creative or scientific joint work. They have to work out different problems in small groups consisting of people from different countries of various nationalities and cultures.
The academic council of Ivanovo State University awarded Paolo Del Bianco with the title of the Honorable Professor for the great contribution of his Foundation to the development of international relations and integration of our university into the European educational area.
